A grey day on Ballencleugh & Comb Law

I was looking forward to the rolling hills of Durisdeer when our plan was to climb Ballencleugh Law, onto Rodger Law, followed by Comb Law.
Whilst little England was forecasting record temperatures our lot was cloud/mist almost down to ground level. Strong cold winds with enough damp moisture for most of the day. Get the picture? The sun tan lotion I applied at home not required.

A steep ascent immediately begins heading up from Durisdeer towards Little Scaw’d Law eventually bringing us to our highest hill, Ballencleugh Law 689m.

As you can see from the snap, as a summit it does not have a lot going for it particularly in this weather.

The top level terrain was the usual mixture of boggy wet marshy ground with some harder ground following fence lines. As the snap shows some awkward fence crossing was called for to avoid deep water. Weather still as bad.
Somehow we missed Rodger Law but when we stopped to take a proper fix we were almost on Comb Law.

The clouds rose and fell a little, enough to let us have our lunch with sprinklings of a view before we descended to the Roman road to make our way back to Durisdeer.

Impressive circular sheep fold, money spent on this estate.

Good company but not a walk to remember fondly.
Wildlife not much with this weather: calling sounds of curlew, oystercatcher and golden plover. Sighted: Red Kite; Buzzard; Crow; Meadow Pipit; Skylark; puddle of 100+ tadpoles, they don’t want the dry weather.
