Cademuir Hill

Hill: Cademuir Hill

Type: Sub2k

Height: 416m

Checked into my digs and then headed for my 2nd short ramble of the day. Cademuir is a popular hill for Ramblers, Peebles dog walkers and mountain bikers.

A short walk began by heading off piste ie not the red/blue trail markers, I suspect I was ascending an MTB trail but thankfully no high speed descending bikers were encountered. The birds were signing high in the canopy. Vibrant and enchanting, the quest for mates is now full on.

The remainder was a snowy trail track before cutting off from this taking the short route to the summit. Two guys pushing their bikes, wimps.

From the top there are excellent views of the Dun Rig circuit and also good views of the Tweed hills and surrounding countryside. There is an Iron Age hill fort nearby but you would need to go exploring to find it. At the top there is a small stone cairn and a picnic bench. Not many of them on a hill summit. There are also new tree plantings so in a few years the summit views will have disappered.

On the descent I became a tourist and followed the red trail to extend the walk.

Ascent: 228m

Distance: 4.7km

Time: 1.22

Wildlife: Buzzard; Blue Tit; Carrion Crow.
